In the eastern part of the mountains you can find surface reaching layers from the Mesozoic era. Numerous springs of mineral water could be found there in the fracture between different geological layers.

Spišská Magura used to be a region of wood cutters and shepherds. Until recently it was out of all traffic routes and thus a lot of folkloric attractions were preserved there. With its untouched beauty and natural determinateness it is even nowadays an interesting region for tourists.
